We are a charity-specialist firm of accountants, auditors and consultants, providing the technical expertise of a large firm charity department, but with the personal, partner-led approach of a small firm.

Background

Godfrey Wilson provides audit, accountancy, tax and consultancy services to small and medium sized organisations. We specialise in charities and social enterprises. The firm was set up in 2005 after identifying a need for specialised yet affordable professional services for charities.

Having built a reputation as a leading provider of audit and accountancy services to the not-for-profit sector, we now work with over 250 charities in Bristol and nationally.

The firm has four partners, Alison Godfrey, Rob Wilson, Guy Blake and Josh Turner, who are supported by a talented and committed team of charity-specialist accountants, bookkeepers and support staff. We have an office in Bristol city centre, but are happy to work with clients across the UK.

Values

Our company is built on a firm commitment to the not-for-profit sector, as well as a wealth of experience in charity finance, accounting and governance. We believe in:

  • Being experts in our field;
  • Working collaboratively with our clients;
  • Being passionate about charities;
  • Offering value for money;
  • Delivering quality;
  • Embracing diversity; and
  • Working ethically.

Overall, we believe that charities and social enterprises really do make a difference and, with strong financial management and governance, their impact can be even greater.

Making a difference

As a company, we are very aware of the impact we have on the world around us. We take corporate social responsibility very seriously, from local issues such as supporting local businesses to global issues such as fair trade and resource usage. Here are some of the ways we try to do our bit.

Reduce, recycle & reuse

We try to minimise resource usage across the business. We are a paperless office. We recycle everything that we can to reduce what goes into landfill. Our redundant IT equipment is donated to a local recycling charity for refurbishment.

Sustainable transport

We try to minimise our carbon emissions and, where practical, we walk, cycle or use public transport to visit our clients. We also encourage our staff to leave their cars at home by providing cycle storage and showers at the office.

Buying local & fair trade

We purchase fair trade products where they are available. We use local businesses and suppliers whenever we can and ensure that our suppliers share our ethical values. For example, we buy office supplies from The Green Stationery Company, an environmentally conscious supplier based in Bath.

Green energy

Our electricity is 100% green, generated from solar and wind and supplied by Ecotricity.

Charitable giving

We donate 1% of our turnover to charity. This year our nominated charity is Médecins Sans Frontières.

Staff volunteering

Our staff regularly give their time to causes that matter to them. Some are charity trustees, others raise money through challenge events, and others volunteer in a front-line role.
