Profile:

An international charity supporting vulnerable children through local church networks. The charity has subsidiaries in Uganda, Hong Kong and USA and annual income of £3m.

How we helped:

We were appointed auditors of Viva Network in 2012. We carry out a statutory audit of the consolidated financial statements, liaising with local auditors in Uganda. The audit is delivered within tight timescales, as dictated by the requirements of the charity’s main funder, DFID. As well as carrying out a statutory audit, we have provided ongoing advice and support on the following matters:

  • Advising on foreign exchange policies and accounting support for managing currency risk (via forward exchange contracts)
  • Improving transparency for donors regarding treatment of gift aid and restricted donations to specific projects
  • Helping implement ‘know your donor’ and ‘know your partner/beneficiary’ processes
  • Identifying practical internal controls to improve financial processes and mitigate risks
Godfrey Wilson are easily the best firm of auditors and accountants I have worked with - from researching and taking time to properly understand our organisation before quoting, to a proportional and thoughtful approach to issues when they arose. I have been thoroughly impressed with them. In recent years I’ve been particularly impressed that the attributes in the partners that attracted us in the first place – knowledge, proportionality, understanding, friendliness – have cascaded to the audit manager and other staff we work with. I have no hesitation in recommending them.
